A Wing and a Prayer: Finding Serenity in Daily Planning

Sometimes, it feels as if my day just happens—unfolding beyond my control, dictated by circumstances rather than intention. Today was one of those days. I needed the services of a plumber, yet my schedule was already packed with commitments. What to do?

Step 1: Clarify the Priority of Needs

When chaos looms, the first step is to determine what truly matters. Without addressing the most pressing issue—finding a plumber—everything else on my to-do list held little value.

Step 2: Tackle the First Priority

Once I established my main priority, the next step was action. I needed to find a plumber before worrying about the rest of the day's obligations.

Step 3: Communicate and Adapt

Knowing that my schedule might shift, I reached out to those who could be affected, arranging for necessary adjustments and ensuring that critical tasks were still handled. Flexibility is key to maintaining serenity.

Step 4: Surrender to a Higher Power

At a certain point, I had to let go and trust that things would work out. This approach, deeply rooted in the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, reminds me of the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

These steps are not just about managing a busy day; they are a way of life. Acceptance, courage, and wisdom are not confined to recovery but are essential in everyday decisions. Leaning on a Higher Power transforms stress into peace, uncertainty into clarity.

Faith in Action

President Henry B. Eyring once said:
"First, pray. Pray for those you lead, pray for those you serve, pray for opportunities, understanding, and blessings often. Lean on the Lord heavily, and He will bless you in your calling."

Approaching life with a wing and a prayer shifts overwhelming challenges into manageable events. When we embrace faith, prioritize wisely, and remain flexible, even the most chaotic days can become opportunities for growth and grace.

By trusting in a Higher Power, we find that daily planning is not just about managing time—it’s about cultivating serenity in the face of life’s uncertainties.
